I am a PhD candidate in the Department of Plant and Microbial Biology with interests in synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, natural product discovery, and food science. My research is focused on yeast engineering for terpene production as a platform for the discovery of enzymes involved in natural product biosynthesis and for the production of already-characterized flavor and fragrance molecules. Most recently, I have been working on a food science project focused on engineering brewer’s yeast to biosynthesize the aromatic molecules that impart hoppy flavor to beer.
